Purulia Agragami made a modest beginning way back in1993. It continued to provide Social Development Services in a befitting mannerkeeping in mind the people-centred Development Philosophy where itsefforts have always been to consider people as the Subject of development andnot as Objector whom development services are being offered. AGRAGAMIbelieves that no detailed blueprint can be designed for projects due to the diversity of ecological and social conditions; therefore, a flexible approachwith the capacity of responding to actual needs of participating groups isrequired. AGRAGAMI works for the people specially the Women & Childrenin need irrespective of caste, creed and religion ethos which theypossess. The majority of the population served by Purulia Agragami is women& Children and others who are both socially and economically downtrodden.
Agragami has undergone growth in terms of expansion of geographicalarea and programmatic intervention during the last 25 years. It’s engagementwith the community encompasses broad sectoral interventions such as Natural ResourceManagement, Livelihood Promotion, Advocacy for the Rights of the Weakersections, Prevention of Child Marriage and all types of Violence against Women,Health, Governance, Education and Youth Mobilisation for Voluntary Action. Thefield operation of the organisation is spread across all the blocks andmunicipalities of Purulia district, 6 blocks and 2 municipalities of Bankuradistrict and all the 12 blocks and municipalities of Paschim Medinipur districtof West Bengal.
